Belgium
During the Summit conference of the European Council in Copenhagen, a full-page article about language equality and Esperanto was published in European Voice, December 13 2002.

 

Croatia
During the programme ‘Half an Hour of Culture’ broadcast by Croatian TV, Dec. 20 2002, linguist Dalibor Brozovic was interviewed about planned languages in the context of a new project about a common Slavic language. He included a serious presentation of Esperanto and introduced the actress Vida Jerman who spoke about Esperanto in the theatre.

 

Chile
The magazine ‘Ĉilio Esperantista’, first published in 1903, has now been re-launched and is available at http://www.esperanto.cl/bulteno/index.htm

 

Cuba
Since February 2003 the web page of the provincial radio station Radio Sancti Spiritus, www.radiosanctispiritus.islagrande.cu/default.htm, has included information in Esperanto.

In June 2002 the Municipal Library in Santiago opened a new Esperanto section. At the opening ceremony it was announced that one of the librarians would learn Esperanto in order to catalogue the material and help members of the public who want to use it.

 

Germany
More than 200 Esperantists from 24 countries celebrated the New Year at the 19th International Festival at Castle Gemen in western Münster, and more than 300 from 30 countries enjoyed the International Seminar in Trier, organized by the German Esperanto Youth Organization.

 

Hungary
At the Teachers Training College in Debrecen, Esperanto is accepted on an equal basis with other ‘living languages’. All students must pass an examination in a modern language in order to qualify.

 

Italy
At the beginning of June 2003 the Milan Esperanto Group will move to new headquarters at Circolo Esperantista Milanese, Via De Predis 9, IT-20155 Milano. Meetings will be held there at 21.15 every Friday except during August.

 

Korea
The 35th Korean Esperanto congress will take place in Conan, an hour’s train ride from Seoul. Further information is available at keast@soback.kornet.net.

 

Lithuania
In preparation for the 90th Universal Congress of Esperanto, which will take place in Vilnius in 2005, the Lithuanian Esperanto Association is organising a series of weekend courses. The first two of these (22-23 Feb & 29-30 Mar) will consist of ten lectures on the history of Esperanto. Further details are available from litova.ea@mail.lt.

 

Poland
‘Slavic influences on Esperanto’ will be the theme of the 2nd Baltic Esperanto Forum which will be held in Olsztyn, 17 – 22 July 2003.

USA
The 5th seminar in the project Esperanto@Interreto organised by the Worldwide Esperanto Youth Organisation, TEJO, will take place at MIT in Boston, 19 – 26 April 2003.
