Austria
Approximately 700 people visited the International Esperanto Museum in
Vienna during the ‘Long Night of Museums’, an annual event which takes place
throughout the country. Most of the visitors were young and
enthusiastically took part in the 40-minute lessons. Copies of the text
book ‘Esperanto eine Einführung in die moderne Umgangssprache’ were
distributed. The event was mentioned several times on national radio and
in the press.
The museum houses one of the largest collections of
Esperanto material available to the public and includes 25000 volumes, 2000
manuscripts, 13000 photographs, 1100 posters and 2000 other objects. The
catalogue is fully computerised and is available through the internet using
the program ‘Trovanto’.
China

Cuba
The 6th All-American Esperanto Congress will take place in
Havana, 21 – 27 March 2004.
Finland
A fable-writing competition for children aged 6 – 13 years is organised
every year by the Paatal Institute in Taivalkoski. The Esperanto section
attracted entries from 8 countries and was won by Jaroslav Vorobjov from
Russia. Competition results were published in several Finnish
newspapers.
France
‘The works of William Shakespeare’. ‘History of dolls’, ‘Music and song’
and ‘Roman art in Pictavius (Poitou)’ are some of the topics in the 2004
programme of ‘Kvinpetalo’, the Esperanto Centre in Bouresse. Further

Germany
Esperantists from Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Italy, Switzerland,
Ukraine and USA took part in the 80th German Esperanto Congress
which took place in Kaufbeuren. An Esperanto version of the town’s

Holland
After a modest beginning in 2002, the course in Interlinguistics and
Esperanto at the University of Amsterdam now attracts a much larger number of
students. The course is an official subject within the sub-faculty of
theoretical linguistics.
This year the Open Day at the Central Office of the
Universal Esperanto Association, Nieuwe Binnenweg 176, Rotterdam, will take
place on Saturday 29 November 10am to 5 pm.
Israel
The web page of the Esperanto League in Israel,
www.ie.esperanto.org.il has
recently been enlarged and improved. It now includes information about
all the Esperanto clubs in the country.
Macedonia
A report on the Annual General Meetings of the two Esperanto Associations ‘La
Progreso’ (Progress) and ‘La Estonto’ (the Future), which took place 14
September. , was broadcast by the local radio station in Prilep.
Poland
Bjalistok University and the Christian Ecumenical Society organised a
seminar on minorities and cultural diversity in Eastern Poland 17 – 19
October. On October 18 the participants discussed L L.Zamenhof and his
work.
‘Faro-Lerez Producer’, a Spanish company making films for
television, visited Bjalistok in October to make a film about Zamenhof and
Esperanto.
Spain
Participants at the 62nd Spanish Esperanto Congress (14 – 19
July) were invited to the Town Hall in Valencia for an official reception by
the Deputy Mayor, Alfonso Grau.
